9-11 July Welsh Sea Rowing leg (Wales) – Entries now CLOSED
Looking for three great reasons to get out on the water?
So you’ve completed the Castle to Crane in Scotland and the Ocean to City in Ireland.
NOW it’s time to smash it and make it 3 out of 3 on the Welsh leg.
Welcome to the Welsh Sea Rowing leg of this unique, international, time trial series this summer: the Five Miles From Home Series 2021.
Rather than asking you to travel, we invite you -wherever in the world you may be- to take part in this international challenge by joining us from your home waters. Taking part is simple! Just form a crew, plot a course, cover the 5 miles (8047meters / 4.345nm) as fast or as stylishly as you can during the designated time windows, submit your times to us and join the online hooley.
The course: Welsh Sea Rowing #5milesfromhome is a time trial of 5 miles (8047 meters). You set your own course, our requirement being that start and finish must be close together (participants cannot therefore simply go downstream or downwind for the whole distance).
The 48hr time window: The time trial should be completed within the window which lasts from 1200 GMT on 9 July until 1200 GMT on 11 July 2021. Participants are responsible for recording the distance covered (probably just over 5 miles), the time taken for that distance, and the track. This should be done on a GPS timing app – click here for a useful guide.
Uploading your result: Take a picture of your team before, during or after the race. You then need to tell us your result by completing the specific results form for your entry. The person submitting the results will need to be logged in through a Google account to access the form (please create one if you need to). Before you click on the link for the form, make sure you have (1) the timing screenshot and (2) team photo/s ready to upload to the results form.
You can find a link for your results form on the right-hand column of the:
If you are not able to undertake the challenge on the water for whatever reason, you are welcome to complete the challenge on land instead. Just tell us that you have done that when you complete the results form.
We really want to hear from you on social media. Updates throughout the race will be posted on the Welsh Sea Rowing Facebook page. Please give a like for the page, and keep liking and sharing posts, to ensure you get the live streams. We aim to publish the results on our Facebook page by 2100 GMT on Sunday 11 July. Please share your own social media posts (both training and competing) by tagging Welsh Sea Rowing (@WelshSeaRowing) and using the hashtags #5milesfromhome and #WelshSeaRowing. As we get your photos in with your results form we will share them to social media.
