Race Start: LOWER TOWN FISHGUARD.

Race Finish: Newport Boat Club Parrog Newport

 Race Procedure: High Tide Fishguard  6:00pm

 

Race registration: 2:30pm to 4:30pm

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

Coxes to wear life jackets, On Board: life jackets for all crew members, first aid kit, baler, Mobile phone or VHF radio.

ALL BOAT WILL BE ISSUED WITH START NUMBERS TO BE ATTACHED TO EITHER SIDE OF THE BOW, IN CLEAR VISIBILITY OF THE RACE TIME KEEPERS. ( Please bring adhesive tape)

PARKING WILL BE MADE AVAILABLE FOR TRAILERS AND COMPETITORS At Parrog green next to boat club

Important: It is the responsibility of all clubs entering the race to ensure that their members are adequately experienced and capable of participating in the eight mile course.

 

RACE INFORMATION:

 

Each Cox will be presented with 2 x start numbers; Race Numbers should be clearly visible on either side of the bow end of competing vessels at start and finish of the race.

 

Lead boat will carry a flag, whilst travelling the most direct and safest route to Parrog.

Should it be necessary the lead boat may lower the flag, and it will then be the responsibility of crews to continue racing without a lead boat, aided by the course map supplied.

 

The safety boat crews will have overall responsibility for the safety of the race, and competitors must comply with their instructions at all times. Should it be necessary to cancel the race then the safety boats will inform all competitors as soon as is practical.

 

The start timekeeper will be set up on the breakwater at Goodwick,

Boats will be set off at approximately 30-second intervals

The timekeeper on the balcony of the Boat Club Parrog will record the overall time as the boats cross the finish line.

Boats should continue rowing passed the finish until they clearly hear a finish sound or hooter.

Having completed the race boats must keep clear of finish line. Boats should not cross back over the finish line if there is any risk of impeding boats still racing.

It would be appreciated if rowers assist other teams to recover their boats and load onto trailers.

 

HAZARDS:

Avoid boat collisions at all cost, especially when entering the narrowing channel at Parrog Newport.

 

1. Strong currents and turbulence in particular off Dinas Head.

 

2. When entering the mouth of the river and across the Newport Bar be aware of breaking waves over shallow water and rocks to the South side.

 

3. Green buoys mark the River Channel; (Keep these markers to cox’s right hand side).

 

4. Sand Banks on opposite side: Boats risk grounding if they leave the marked channel.
