WSR Committee Roles

The Welsh Sea Rowing (WSR) Committee is made up of volunteers who help manage, develop and promote sea rowing across Wales. Below is a summary of each committee role and its responsibilities.

Chair

Provides leadership to Welsh Sea Rowing, chairs committee and annual meetings, represents WSR at events, and helps ensure the committee delivers its objectives effectively.

Vice Chair

Supports the Chair in all aspects of the role and acts on their behalf when required.

Secretary

Manages committee meetings, communications, official records and documentation. Acts as a key point of contact for clubs, members and external enquiries.

Membership Secretary

Manages club affiliations and membership records, helping to ensure clubs and rowers remain registered and up to date.

Treasurer

Oversees WSR finances, maintains financial records, prepares budgets and reports, and presents annual accounts to members.

Health & Safety Officer

Provides guidance and support on health and safety matters, assists clubs with policies and procedures, and helps ensure incidents are reported appropriately.

Welfare & Child Protection Officer

Supports clubs on safeguarding matters, oversees DBS processes and welfare compliance, and promotes safe environments for all participants. Provides advice and support on the wellbeing of members and works with clubs to promote a positive and inclusive rowing environment.

Training Officer

Identifies training needs, develops learning opportunities, and supports clubs and members in developing their rowing, coaching and volunteer skills.

Race Officer

Coordinates the WSR race calendar, advises on race-related matters, supports race organisers, and helps ensure consistency across league events.

Web Officer

Maintains the WSR website, ensuring information, documents, news and event details remain accurate and up to date.

Insurance Officer

Manages WSR insurance arrangements, supports clubs with insurance matters, and assists with insurance claims and event cover requirements.

Publicity Officer

Promotes WSR through social media and public communications, helping raise awareness of clubs, events and achievements across Wales.

Development Officer

Welsh Rowing Coastal Development Officer – sits on the WSR Committee, liaison between WSR and Welsh Rowing.

Regional Representatives

Act as the link between local clubs and the WSR Committee. They support club development, share information, represent local concerns, and help coordinate activities within their region.
