It is with regret that Shropshire Adventure Rowing Club (SARC) has to announce the cancellation of this years’ Montford Challenge Row. This decision has been made predominantly on safety grounds: the storms of last month have likely affected the course, but with the river running so high since then we have not been able to complete a full risk assessment of its entire 12 mile length.
With more rain predicted we may also face the challenge of rowing against the flow of a very high river, potentially making the course unrowable to the finish. Turning down stream in a fast-flowing river is extremely dangerous, making attempting a race and abandoning it a non-viable option.
The Montford Challenge has now been removed from our calendar and those clubs who have already paid up will be refunded immediately. We are hugely disappointed by this decision, but safety is our priority, and we hope to be back bigger and better next year.

Average age of all crew will determine age class.
In a return to the old format, this will be a 11.5 mile endurance race upstream from Shropshire Showground to Montford Bridge.
This is an arduous race, not for the faint-hearted!
Exact itinerary may be subject to change dependant on river conditions! A finish time limit will be set and positions noted for
final results should boats fail to cross the line.

Coxes briefing at 10:30am, ready to race for 11:00am
Pre-race breakfast, post-race food, Bar, Evening Entertainment.
